Another Space, yoga: The Lowdown
Another Space (part of the Third Space gyms family) combines HIIT, spin and yoga in a beautiful space in the hustle of Covent Garden. I’ve been to yoga there several times now, passing my self-imposed three class pass rule that now I’m equipped to give you The Lowdown.
FORMAT: As far as I’m aware, Another Space's yoga is of the vinyasa variety (the most common, a yoga ‘flow’ of postures and breathing). There’s no set space for the instructor to instruct on a mat, which used to really annoy me when I was an absolute beginner first attening yoga classes as I craved following the lead of someone. However, the instructor walked the class and adjusted the whole time. I also found that I focussed more on myself than the others around me, although this might have been because I was facing a pillar...
LENGTH: Varying between 60 to 75 minutes (more for your mons!).
HOW MANY PEOPLE: Usual class size for a London studio, I’m guessing about 25 people. The unusual thing about Another Space is you book by mat number and have your set space set out with all your equipment (and towel) ready for you. No faffing at beginning or end of class scrabbling round for blocks or having someone treading over you reaching for the belts.
INSTRUCTORS: I’ve only been to Chris’ (the main yogi) classes and he has a really unique and humorous teaching style which I really enjoyed. Usual poses that you've probably done a thousand times are deconstructed and when you think you can’t do another plank and knee to nose touch, you will - but you’ll do it with a smile on your face (sorta).
YOU WILL LIKE IT IF YOU LOVE: Anywhere where you take part in yoga in a warm and nourishing environment, such as Good Vibes yoga studio. The studio is warm and paired with the lights and lavender aroma, will take you on a bit of a sensory journey (yeah, you better believe I just wrote that!).
SWEAT FACTOR: 3/5. For yoga, this is a lot. The dynamic flow class was a full on workout - I'm talking an abs shaking kind of workout.
VALUE FOR MONEY: £20 a pop i.e. usual London fare, but since Another Space is fairly new on the market and is still trying to grow its following, there are loads of really great offers around. I love it when a free buddy pass lands in my account because it happens to be Valentine’s week.
LOCATION: Smack bang in the middle of Covent Garden.
CHANGING ROOMS: Nice changing rooms with cowshed products, a good amount of showers and toilets and zillions of lockers. Free towels too, and straighteners and hair products available.
THE VERDICT: I really love Another Space and it may have stolen the crown of my favourite yoga spot in London. Spacious, calm and challenging, the practice is everything you want from a studio (there's even plants knocking around!). I would absolutely recommend you check it out for yourself.
